Simple act leads to extra ordinary miracle

In 2nd Kings, Naaman, an army commander from gentiles is cured from leprosy. This miracle has been quoted by Jesus to express his grievance against Jewish leader and high priests. It is a long passage and you can read it here Naaman Cleaned from Leprosy

When Naaman came to Elisha, he asked Naaman to do a simple act. He asked him to go and wash him in Jordan River seven times. But Naamam was angry because of this simple act.

If Elisha would have asked him to do great things, then he would have listern to him immediately. When Naaman's servent pointed it to him, he listen and get cured.

What is for us
  1. Even a simple good act or any act from Gods word can do greatest miracle in our life
  2. LIstern to your neighbour as God may talk to you thtough them if your heart is not open.

Lent 2012: Real Forgiveness

If you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgression (Mathew 6:15).

When we are talking about forgiveness, we are not really talking about things like someone dent my car in the parking lot and left or someone cut you in freeway. These are very easy to forgive.

So what really is Forgiveness. Assume your kid gets hurt because of someones carelessness or one of your close relative is hurt by someone etc.

The question is, what will you do if you are in simlar situation. Will you forgive that person who hurt your kid or spouse or parent etc. God is looking for a true forgiveness here from US which exceed our human nature. As God forgive us without any exception or expectation, we have to forgive others like Him.

It is not easy to do that. If you are in similar situation then the best thing is to pray. Prayer is the best way to start forgiveness in anyones life. Without Gods help we cannot forgive others.

Three lessons from Jesus Miracle

In John Gospel, Jesus cured the man who was crippled for 38 year. If you like to read the complete passage then click here John 5:1 - 16

We can take three lessons from this miracle.

  1. What is important Sabbath day is not just to praying and preaching. The most important thing is to help others who are in need of us. When we help others, we will reflect Jesus in us and they can see that in our service.  “Preach the gospel always, If necessary use words.” - St.Francis
  2. Response to Jesus/God: When you respond to Gods word or work, you should not care about other worldly things. The sick person know that it is against Jews law to take the bed and walk on a Sabbath day. But he did as response to Jesus and cured.
  3. Proclaim: When the person know that Jesus cured him, he proclaim it to all. When we are expose the good things about God and Gods help in our life we will be pounded with more blessings.

Second Kings Chapter 5 verse 1 to 15

Second Kings Chapter 5 verse 1 to 15

Naaman, the army commander of the king of Aram,
was highly esteemed and respected by his master,
for through him the LORD had brought victory to Aram.
But valiant as he was, the man was a leper.
Now the Arameans had captured in a raid on the land of Israel
a little girl, who became the servant of Naaman's wife.
"If only my master would present himself to the prophet in Samaria,"
she said to her mistress, "he would cure him of his leprosy."
Naaman went and told his lord
just what the slave girl from the land of Israel had said.
"Go," said the king of Aram.
"I will send along a letter to the king of Israel."
So Naaman set out, taking along ten silver talents,
six thousand gold pieces, and ten festal garments.
To the king of Israel he brought the letter, which read:
"With this letter I am sending my servant Naaman to you,
that you may cure him of his leprosy."

When he read the letter,
the king of Israel tore his garments and exclaimed:
"Am I a god with power over life and death,
that this man should send someone to me to be cured of leprosy?
Take note! You can see he is only looking for a quarrel with me!"
When Elisha, the man of God,
heard that the king of Israel had torn his garments,
he sent word to the king:
"Why have you torn your garments?
Let him come to me and find out
that there is a prophet in Israel."

Naaman came with his horses and chariots
and stopped at the door of Elisha's house.
The prophet sent him the message:
"Go and wash seven times in the Jordan,
and your flesh will heal, and you will be clean."
But Naaman went away angry, saying,
"I thought that he would surely come out and stand there
to invoke the LORD his God,
and would move his hand over the spot,
and thus cure the leprosy.
Are not the rivers of Damascus, the Abana and the Pharpar,
better than all the waters of Israel?
Could I not wash in them and be cleansed?"
With this, he turned about in anger and left.

But his servants came up and reasoned with him.
"My father," they said,
"if the prophet had told you to do something extraordinary,
would you not have done it?
All the more now, since he said to you,
'Wash and be clean,' should you do as he said."
So Naaman went down and plunged into the Jordan seven times
at the word of the man of God.
His flesh became again like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

He returned with his whole retinue to the man of God.
On his arrival he stood before him and said,
"Now I know that there is no God in all the earth,
except in Israel."

Gospel of John Chapter 5, verse 1 to 16

Gospel of John Chapter 5, verse 1 to 16

There was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
Now there is in Jerusalem at the Sheep Gate
a pool called in Hebrew Bethesda, with five porticoes.
In these lay a large number of ill, blind, lame, and crippled.
One man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years.
When Jesus saw him lying there
and knew that he had been ill for a long time, he said to him,
"Do you want to be well?"
The sick man answered him,
"Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool
when the water is stirred up;
while I am on my way, someone else gets down there before me."
Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your mat, and walk."
Immediately the man became well, took up his mat, and walked.

Now that day was a sabbath.
So the Jews said to the man who was cured,
"It is the sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to carry your mat."
He answered them, "The man who made me well told me,
'Take up your mat and walk.'"
They asked him,
"Who is the man who told you, 'Take it up and walk?'"
The man who was healed did not know who it was,
for Jesus had slipped away, since there was a crowd there.
After this Jesus found him in the temple area and said to him,
"Look, you are well; do not sin any more,
so that nothing worse may happen to you."
The man went and told the Jews
that Jesus was the one who had made him well.
Therefore, the Jews began to persecute Jesus
because he did this on a sabbath.

Monday, March 19, 2012 - Solemnity of St. Joseph

We don’t have much information about St. Joseph in Bible. We can see his presence in few verses in the first part of the gospels. But in those phrases, God called him as “Just”. It is a wonderful and great to be called as Just Man especially from Gods mouth. Next to Mother Mary, Saint Joseph is the most praised and wonderful saint of all times. He always followed the guidance of God without any question.

He is called ‘Patron Saint of Universal Church”. The reason for naming him as the patron of universal church is that he protects Mother Mary and Jesus all through their life.

He is also called as Patron of Workers.

Saint Joseph had two feasts (March 19th and May 1st).

Follow Me (Luke 5:27)

"Follow Me", these two words had changed the whole like of Simon the Levi. He understood and realize the importance of these words and followed him.

These words are not only come from God. It can come in any ways in the world. You can be called to follow your money or wealth or power etc etc. Everyone or everything in the world like to have other following them [like twitter :)].

There will be hundreds of 'Follow Me' calls around us, but how are we going to identify the best.

Lets pray to Holy Spirit for his third gift (Counsel) which will help us to identify the best and right 'Follow Me' request.

Dedicating Completely to God - A Story

Two brother went to buy house for them. They found 2 hours same in everything own by an evil landlord. They went and talk to him about the houses.
The evil landlord came up with two options.
Option 1: He owns a small nail the kitchen cornet. A small nail which is hardly visible. Cost of the house is 200 thousand dollars.
Option 2: He owns nothing and he will vacate the house completely. But the cost is 2 million dollar.

Both the brothers were exited, but confused. The elder one decode to give 2 million and get the complete ownership. But the younger brother go with option 1 and pay only 200 thousand dollar.

One week went like a gentle breeze. Everything was just fine.
One fine morning the evil landlord came to the younger brother's house and hang a dead dog in the needle. The brother was shocked, but he is speechless as he realize the agreement.

At end he has to left the home and the evil landlord took the house and occupy it completely.

Moral of the Story: If you cant get rid of Satan and his evil thoughts completely then you will fall into his trap again. It is wise to pay more to send Satan and his thoughts completely from our Heart.

Lent 2012: Fasting - Thinking out of box

Why do we fast, and you do not see it? (Isaiah 58:3)

When we think or talk about fasting, the first thing come to our mind is abstains from food, drinks, pleasure on anything. These are good ways to start. But the real fasting what God is expecting from us is that we should serve the needy. A simple help to the needy, like cleaning the dish or helping a kid to finish his/her homework or helping your parents in shopping etc. Even a 10 or 15 minutes of help a day is much better than any other fasting

During this 2012 lent period, think about the fasting outside the box. Like the way how God want us to do.

7 Graces/Gifts of Holy Spirit

The seven gifts of Holy Spirit was found by St. Thomas Aquinas. These gifts are the great treasure for us and we can en light us with
  1. Wisdom: Wisdom is something beyond intelligence. Wisdom will help us to believe and understand God which we have never seen.
  2. Understanding: The second gift help us to understand the scripture clearly and help us to be in line with God. We should understand the scripture clearly so that any false teaching will not confuse us.
  3. Counsel (Right Judgment): Help to identify the wrong deeds from Good and help to avoid it in our life.
  4. Fortitude (Courage): We should overcome any fear in our life with Gods Courage. If you don't have courage, you will fall in the devil's pit easily.
  5. Knowledge: It will help us to understand God and his teaching.
  6. Piety (Reverence): With this gift we will have high respect for God and Church.
  7. Fear of the Lord (Wonder and Awe): Fear is one of the most important gift from God. Every living being has fear in life which will guide his life. Fear of God and his Love will help us to go in the right path.

Novena to the Saint Therese

First Day
St. Therese, privileged Little Flower of Jesus and Mary, I approach you with childlike confidence and deep humility. I lay before you my desires, and beg that through your intercession they may be realized. Did you not promise to spend your heaven doing good upon earth? Grant me according to this promise the favors I am asking from you. Intercede for us all the days of our life, but especially during this Novena and obtain for us from God the graces and favors we ask through your intercession. Amen.

Note: Say Concluding Prayer

Second Day

O dear little Saint, now that you see the crucified Jesus in heaven, still bearing the wounds caused by sin, you know still more clearly than you did upon earth the value of souls, and the priceless worth of that Precious Blood which He shed to save them. As I am one of those children for whom Christ died, obtain for me all the graces I need in order to profit by that Precious Blood. Use your great power with our divine Lord and pray for me. Intercede for us all the days of our life, but especially during this Novena and obtain for us from God the graces and favors we ask through your intercession. Amen.

Note: Say Concluding Prayer

Third Day

Dear Little Flower, make all things lead me to heaven and God, Whether I look at the sun, the moon, the stars and the vast expanse in which they float, or whether I look at the flowers of the field, the trees of the forest, the beauties of the earth so full of color and so glorious, may they speak to me of the love and power of God; may they all sing His praises in my ear. Like you may I daily love Him more and more in return for His gifts? Teach me often to deny myself in my dealings with others, that I may offer to Jesus many little sacrifices. Intercede for us all the days of our life, but especially during this Novena and obtain for us from God the graces and favors we ask through your intercession. Amen.

Note: Say Concluding Prayer

Fourth Day

Dear Little Flower of Carmel, bearing so patiently the disappointments and delays allowed by God, and preserving in the depths of your soul an unchanging peace because you sought only God's will, ask for me complete conformity to that adorable Will in all the trials and disappointments of life. If the favors I am asking during this Novena are pleasing to God, obtain them for me. If not, it is true I shall feel the refusal keenly, but I too wish only God's Will, and pray in the words you used, that I "may ever be perfectly fulfilled in me." Intercede for us all the days of our life, but especially during this Novena and obtain for us from God the graces and favors we ask through your intercession. Amen.

Note: Say Concluding Prayer

Fifth Day

Little Flower of Jesus, from the very first moment of your religious life you thought only of denying yourself in all things so as to follow Jesus more perfectly; help me to bear patiently the trials of my daily life. Teach me to make use of the trials, the sufferings, and the humiliations that come my way, to learn to know myself better and to love God more. Intercede for us all the days of our life, but especially during this Novena and obtain for us from God the graces and favors we ask through your intercession. Amen.

Note: Say Concluding Prayer

Sixth Day

St. Therese, Patroness of the Missions, be a great missionary throughout the world to the end of time. Remind our Master of His own words, "The harvest is great, but the laborers are few." Your zeal for souls was so great, obtain a like zeal for those now working for souls, and beg God to multiply their numbers, that the millions to whom Jesus is yet unknown may be brought to know, love and follow Him. Intercede for us all the days of our life, but especially during this Novena and obtain for us from God the graces and favors we ask through your intercession. Amen.

Note: Say Concluding Prayer

Seventh Day

O little martyr of Love, you know now even better than in the days of your pilgrimage that Love embraces all vocations; that it is Love alone which counts, which unites us perfectly to God and conforms our will with His. All you sought on earth was love, to love Jesus as He had never yet been loved. Use your power in heaven to make us love Him. If only we love Him we shall desire to make Him loved by others; we shall pray much for souls. We shall no longer fear death, for it will unite us to Him forever. Obtain for us the grace to do all for the love of God, to give Him pleasure, to love Him so well that He may be pleased with us as He was with you. Intercede for us all the days of our life, but especially during this Novena and obtain for us from God the graces and favors we ask through your intercession. Amen.

Note: Say Concluding Prayer

Eighth Day

Dear St. Therese, like you I have to die one day. I beseech you; obtain from God, by reminding Him of your own precious death, that I may have a holy death, strengthened by the Sacraments of the Church, entirely resigned to the most holy Will of God, and burning with love for Him. May my last words on earth be, "My God? I love You." Intercede for us all the days of our life, but especially during this Novena and obtain for us from God the graces and favors we ask through your intercession. Amen.

Note: Say Concluding Prayer

Ninth Day

Dear Little St. Therese, by love and suffering while you were on earth, you won the power with God, which you now enjoy in heaven. Since your life there began, you have showered down countless blessings on this poor world; you have been an instrument made use of by your divine Spouse to work countless miracles. I beg of you to remember all my wants. Sufferings must come to me also, may I use them to love God more, and follow my Jesus better. You are especially the little missionary of love. Make me love Jesus more, and all others for His sake. With all my heart I thank the most Holy Trinity for the wonderful blessings conferred on you, and upon the world through you. Intercede for us all the days of our life, but especially during this Novena and obtain for us from God the graces and favors we ask through your intercession. Amen.

Note: Say Concluding Prayer

Concluding Prayer:
O Lord, U have said: Unless you become as little children you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven; grant us, we beg you, so to follow, in humility and simplicity of heart, the footsteps of the Virgin blessed Therese, that we may attain to an everlasting reward. Amen.

Lent Reflection: Two types of forgiveness

Here are the two types of forgiveness.

  1. Forgive yourself - If you cant forgive yourself then you cant forgive others. It doesn't matter how big is your sin. If you ask forgiveness it will be forgiven completely.  It’s an insult to God if you told that your sins are bigger than His mercy.
  2. Forgive your neighbors - Like God, we have to forgive our neighbors. We are created as the 'Image of God'. So we too have to forgive our neighbor without any exception.

Saint of the day - Wednesday, March 14, 2012 - St. Maximilian (d. 295)

St. Maximilian is a 21 year young man dedicated his life to God. During his period all men were forced to server in military. When he was forced to serve for Roman army, he refused. His response was
"I will never serve. You can cut off my head, but I will not be a soldier of this world, for I am a soldier of Christ. My army is the army of God, and I cannot fight for this world. I tell you I am a Christian."
"I shall not die. If I go from this earth, my soul will live with Christ my Lord."
He was killed by the Roman Soldiers at his 21st age.
Note: He is not Maximilian Kolbe, who offers his life for another person in Nixies death camp.

Prayer to Saint Therese

O Jesus, who in Thy bitter Passion didn't become "the most abject of men, a man of sorrows", I venerate Thy Sacred Face whereon there once did shine the beauty and sweetness of the Godhead; but now it has become for me as if it where the face of the leper! Nevertheless, under those disfigured features, I recognize thy infinite love and I am consumed with the desire to love Thee and make Thee loved by all men. The tears which well up abundantly in Thy sacred eyes appears to me as so many precious pearls that I love to gather up, in order to purchase the souls of poor sinners by means of They're infinite value. O Jesus, whose adorable face ravishes my heart, I implore Thee to fix deep within me Thy divine image and to set me on fire with Thy love, that I may be found worthy to come to the contemplation of Thy glorious face in Heaven.

Amen
